Getting Your Teammates Open

There are a few basics in setting a good screen to get your teammates open for scoring opportunities. It doesn’t go down in the stat line, but these are the little things your coaches will notice and can have a huge impact on the game.

  • Square up with the other defender

o   Make sure your chest is square with the defender’s shoulder and hips

  • Feet set

o   You need a wide, sturdy base that is straight up and down, not leaning

  • Hands and arms against your body

o   Have your arms hanging straight down with your hands together against your body

  • Open up after the screen

o   As your teammate comes shoulder to shoulder with you off the screen, you should open up with his/her like a door so you can see to receive a pass
